Candle Care & Safety

Gourmet Natural Wax Candles are beautiful!  It's no wonder we all want to burn them and enjoy the wonderful scents.  To enjoy your candles in a safe manner and get the best results from your candles, please follow these recommendations:

Never leave a burning candle unattended!  Extinguish the flame before leaving the room or falling asleep.

Never move a lighted candle!  The flame is always hot and the melted wax may be very hot too.

Keep burning candles away from children and pets!  Children and pets can be very curious without understanding the possible dangers.

Place candles on a protected, heat resistant surface.  Hot jars and votives can damage furniture.

Burn votives in proper holders, not free standing.  The wax will pool in the holder.  The more snug the holder the longer the candle will burn.

Do NOT place jars on candle warmer or coffee warmer plates!  The glass jar and metal wick base were not created to withstand the heat build up from the wax melting from the bottom up.  Jars could potentially break.

Always place candles on a flat, even surface away from flammable objects.  Placing your candle too close to flammable objects or on an unsteady surface may start a fire.

Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4 inch at all times.  This keeps the flames at the right height and is essential for longer burning times.

Do not allow the wick to touch the side of a container.  This may cause the glass to become too hot and crack or break.

To extinguish a candle use a snuffer.  Blowing your candle out can cause wax to spray and wicks to move out of place.

Do NOT burn a candle completely to the bottom of a container.  To prevent possible heat damage to the surface or breakage of the glass jar, discontinue using when 1/2 inch of wax remains.

Use candle or long lighters to light candles.  Matches can burn you more easily and often result in other materials falling into the candle holder.

Never extinguish a candle by placing the lid on a burning jar.  This will cause the smoke and heat to build up and may cause the jar to crack or break.  Allow the candle to cool before replacing the lid.

To minimize wax left on the sides of the jars or holders, burn candles 1 hour for each inch of it's diameter.  This allows the flame time to melt the wax to the outer edge.  For example, a candle with a 3 inch diameter should be burned for 3 hours at a time.  Burning for less time will cause the candle to tunnel down the middle and shorten the burn life of the candle.

Avoid placing candles in direct sunlight.  This can cause the color to fade.

Never use a candle for a light when checking the pilot light or fueling equipment such as kerosene heaters or lanterns.  The flame may ignite the fumes.

Avoid placing candles in drafty areas.  This can cause the wax to drip and the flame to flicker which will contribute to smoking and sooting and shorten the burn time.

If the wick is trimmed to short and the liquid pool begins to drown the flame, extinguish the flame.  You can pour off some of the melted wax and relight it for better results.

If the wick moves off center, gently use a butter knife to push the wick back into place while the wax is hot.  Keep the wick centered and straight for even burning.

Before a party, light and extinguish candles.  They will then light more quickly and easily when it is time for the guest to arrive.

Please ENJOY your Gourmet Candles in a safe manner at all times!
